Attempts at Some Calm
Oh man friends, oh man. If you’ve been around here for any length of time you probably know that last year I was battling with my mental health pretty dang hard. That was a rough go, but I learned a lot of really healthy coping mechanisms and also was actually able to get really in touch with my emotions. Which was exhausting, but so nice. As this year has progressed though, I’m having to pull out those coping mechanisms more and more often. If you live the US right now, specifically in a big city like I do, I’m pretty…

It’s all about that summer sunshine
Happy Monday awesome people! This is the first week in a few months that the temps have started climbing again, which is actually out of the ordinary. Usually by now we’re up into at least the mid 80’s consistently but the weather has actually been really mild and lovely. I am not complaining, trust me. It’s been so nice to be able to have the windows open more often, and honestly to be able to go for walks in other parts of the day besides just the early morning or evening. Plus this weather is conducive to me going outside…

Hanging In There?
Hello again bookish friends, I’m here hoping that you’re holding it together and that you had a nice relaxing long weekend. I know things have been tough for a lot of us these last few weeks, and I’d be lying to you if I tried to say I was operating like normal. I am not. The world is not normal, so how could I be? What I am trying to do is just find joy in the little things, and that’s what getting me through each day. My birthday came and went, and honestly I had the best birthday I’ve…

An Ending in Sight
Ah friends, the ending to our house renovations is finally in sight! Our contractors have been amazing, and now we’re in the stage of just cleaning things up and polishing things up. In fact, we’ve actually been able to move back into part of our house and it has been so appreciated. Sharing a single room with a husband a dog, when we both have to work out of it and also eat/relax/sleep in it was pretty exhausting. But the newness of our house is so worth it. Living in an 80 year old house that is now less creaky…

Spring Time Updates
I am alive! In case you were worried, haha. Since last I posted on here things got really busy, really quickly. We’re in the middle stages on a renovation on our house, which has caused us to basically move out of most it. I remember being so glad when we moved into a house because I was like now I will never have to pack again! Lies. All lies. Hahaha. But at least in this case it’s for a good cause. Soon our house will be even closer to what I’ve always wanted, and I’ll be happy homeowner. My monthly…

Happy Spring friends!
It is officially the start of Spring, and LA weather is actually playing nice for once. I woke up to sunshine and bird song, and the high in the city is looking to be in the mid-70s. A beautiful day to get out, do some walking, and really just appreciate the fact that it’s going to start warming up. This is my favorite time of year. I don’t mind the rain at all, and the weather when it’s warm is just gorgeous. I’ve got to soak it in before the summer temps come and push us all indoors hahaha. Anyway…

A Rainy Wednesday in March
It’s a cold, drizzly day here in So Cal and all I really want to be doing is reading. Alas, I have to work that 9 to 5 to support my reading habit in the first place, and so I’m instead content with listening to an audiobook in the background of my spreadsheet work. Do you all out there do the same? I used to listen to music too, but I find having a narrator read me a book kind of hits the spot. Especially on a day like today. As you can see, this little blog is slowly coming…

I’m back from hiatus
Hi friends, I know I disappeared for a bit. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, these last few weeks have been a lot. I’m been using all my coping mechanisms, but it just ended up that I needed to take a break. When reading no longer becomes fun, that’s when I know that it’s time to take a step back and relax for a bit. Set my expectations of myself as low as possible, and go into battery saving mode. So what have I been up to? Playing a LOT of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Sometimes it’s…

That Thin Line Between Balance and Burnout
How are we holding up my friends? Okay, I hope! I started working on a review for The Resurrectionist by A. Rae Dunlap, but my brain has decided to strike. It’s been a long week already and so I’m focusing the rest of my energy on walking that thin line between balance and burnout. Last year I took a step back and learned a lot about myself. I learned good coping mechanisms and how to spot when I’m about to descend into a burnout period so that I can reverse it before it starts. Little did I know that I’d…

Just Another Random Wednesday Update
Hi there, it’s me again! Rambling at you, because my brain is full of notes for book reviews and yet work is so busy that I don’t have time to sit down and actually write them. Some day I’ll show you the random notes I scribble, hurriedly jotting my feelings down as I read and try to figure out how to aptly explain how a certain part of a book makes me feel. It’s a lot of fun to get so caught up in a book that I forget, but then it also makes it harder for me to write…
