    Work Stuff and Exhaustion

Man, this week got away from me. I was so proud because I managed to post on Monday and then suddenly I blinked and it was Friday. It’s just been one of those kinds of weeks where the days blend in to one another, and I’m just helplessly dragged along. My transition at work is going smoothly, but it has also been a lot to deal with. Training someone else, while simultaneously being trained? Well, it’s a lot. I’m not even surprised that my brain pushed all things about the blog out. Hahaha. Happily though, I have been reading! It’s…

Yes, this is a post about the rain.

If you’re on Twitter you’ve probably seen that #LARain and #flooding have been trending like mad, and that’s totally warranted. We’re on our third week of pretty consistent rain and, today in particular, has been a straight up DELUGE. (I love that word.) Living in a place that constantly bemoans the lack of rain, and then is never prepared for large quantities of rain, will never cease to crack me up. *sigh* This is basically our personality now. LA people love/hate rain with their whole souls. Luckily I was able to work from home today, because (see earlier infrastructure notes)…

    Hello there friends!

I honestly didn’t realize how long I’d been away from here, and I apologize for making you all wait for me! There have been a series of weird health things happening with me. They kind of piled up, one after another, and only now do I finally feel semi-normal. Most of my energy has been spent just listening to my body and trying to take care of it. My reading and my blogging took a backseat. Which, honestly, is as it should be. Never forget that you are most important! Always take care of yourself first. That being said, I…

    Spring is upon us!

Although I’m not pleased by the recent time change (darn you for taking away my ability to wake up to sunshine), I am very excited about the fact that it’s almost Spring! I actually got some of my plants into the ground last weekend, although most of them need another two weeks before they can start. Still, putting those little seeds into the new dirt, being excited about the little green seedlings that will soon arrive, it has me in a tizzy! I simply cannot wait for the warmer weather. My absolute favorite thing about the warm weather is reading…

On audio books and why they’re my new best friends.

If you’re anywhere on the internet, it’s inevitable that at some point you’ll see a debate about audio books. You have the group who insistent that these are somehow “cheating” and don’t have the same benefit as print books. Then you have the group, the one that I fall in, who believes in the power of audio books. I don’t exclusively listen to audio books, I alternate between formats, but I wouldn’t mind if anyone else did! Truth be told, some stories come to life only when told verbally, and I fully believe that narrators are artists. Anyway, this is…

A Quiet Start to the Year

It’s been a quiet, but lovely start to the year so far! I’m so pleased with the fact that I actually finished five full books last month, and that I only bought one new physical book. In case you’re wondering what I chose, I found the most beautiful book ever and absolutely had to have it. The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by Axie Oh is a feminist retelling of a classic Korean fairytale. Doesn’t that sound amazing? I know! It sounds amazing. You should go check out the cover and fall in love too, because it is absolutely…

    The Year of Low Buy

I started out the year by doing what I should probably do every year, but never do… cleaning out my hoards. Every Christmas I am blessed with lovely gifts, and I always mean to go through my extra things and donate them. Then I never do. Hahaha. It’s one of the reasons why this year it was absolutely necessary. I sat down and went through piles of magazines, stacks of books, shelves of clothes, and came out the other side with a bunch of wonderful donation piles and plenty of space for the new things I had acquired. It was…

It’s been pretty quiet so far this month, right?

Perhaps you’re wondering, where did Jessica go? Last month was so full of updates, and she has all but disappeared. If you were curious, my coworker (read: the only person who I directly work with on all our tasks) has been on vacation for the last 10 days. Hahaha. So essentially the answer is that I have been so swamped in work, that being on the computer outside of work hours sounds awful. So my apologies for the quietness around here! I have been reading, and I do have more reviews to share! I just need my other half to…

    Lazy Fall Sundays

Friends, the weather is finally reflecting the fact that it is Fall and I am THRILLED. While living in So Cal is wonderful most of the time, the tendency for summer to stick around isn’t one of them. I prefer cool weather, warm drinks, and cozy vibes. It’s also the season for cozy reads, which for me means all the spooky things! I have a big list of creepy stories sitting in front of me, peppered with some light autumn romances for breaks. I tend to read a lot more this time of year, and I’m looking forward to it!…

    Awaiting Fall

I can’t be the only one who is ready for Fall weather, can I? I know that it’s not quite that part of the year yet, and also that I love in So Cal where there isn’t really a Fall, but I’m still aching for it. We hit the third day in a row with 90 degree temperatures, and I am just so over it. My brain wants cool weather, warm blankets, and hot cocoa. Sometimes I think back to how much I used to love Summer when I was a kid. Except now I realize that was only because…
