Book Review: Good Spirits by B.K. Borison

He’s the Ghost of Christmas Past. She’s not exactly Scrooge. Ghost of Christmas Past Nolan Callahan intends to spend this holiday haunting like every other—get in, get out, return to his otherwise aimless existence as a ghost awaiting the afterlife. But when he’s faced with Harriet York, the sweetest assignment he’s ever had, he suddenly finds himself wishing for a future. Harriet York has no idea why she’s being haunted. She’s a good person—or, at least, she tries to be. A people pleaser to her core, she always does what’s expected of her. But as she and Nolan begin to…

    Back to the old grind

Ah, January. I know everyone sees it a fresh start. New year, new me, and all that. To me though, January is still a month of cold, wet weather and a feeling of stagnancy. I want to be bundled up in blankets, paw through story books, and take long weekend naps. Self improvement is so far off in the future in my mind still. It’s a season of rest, and healing. My “better self” can wait until March. Our work has also called everyone back into the office three days a week, so we’re still hybrid but just going in…

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? (1/4/26)

Happy Monday bookish people! It’s the first real feeling week after two weeks of work limbo. I didn’t take any extra time off so I didn’t descend quite as deeply into questioning my existence as most of my friends, but even having those two Thursdays off in a row kind of threw off my entire schedule. I swore Saturday was Sunday for the majority of the day, and so all of Sunday felt like an extra blessing. So very nice, time to catch and to read! Without further ado, let’s get into the first update of the year! Read Last…

    2026 – My Bookish Resolutions

It feels a little wrong that the new year started on a Thursday, doesn’t it? Like, the weekend approaches and yet we are expected to buckle down and set goals for the year. So I’ve decided to postpone my personal goals until the new week starts! It’s always good time for bookish resolutions though. Especially since I have a week off coming up to just rest, relax and catch up on things. Bookish Resolutions for 2026: I’m feeling confident that these are things that I can accomplish, and that makes me feel really good! It’s been a tough time finding…

    How is it already December?

I swear I blinked and suddenly an entire month had passed. November was a whirlwind of rocky mental health days, juggling family events, and trying my damn best to get some reading in so that I didn’t go completely insane. The holiday season still remains one of my favorites for a lot of reasons, but 2025 has been such a hard year overall. It’s no surprise to me at all that this particular holiday season feels like a slog rather than something to celebrate. I am burnt out. On a happy note, I’m on track to hit my reading goal…

    An extra day of rest

Exhaustion hit me so hard this weekend, and with it came the kind of headache that causes vertigo and nausea. Ugh. So I’m home today, alternating between sleeping and watching baking shows depending on what how I’m feeling will allow. It’s baffling to me that this time of year always does this to me. Perhaps I need to not summer so hard, hahaha. Either way, at least I know when it’s time to take a step back and give myself an extra day of rest. I don’t really have a lot to report since the last time I wrote. I’ve…

Can’t Wait Wednesday: The Fox and the Devil

Happy Wednesday friends! If you’ve made it this far, just know that you’re doing amazingly well! I know the world can feel pretty heavy lately. So I’ve taken to marking every Wednesday as an accomplishment. I survived the first half of the week, how about that? My book choice this week was actually sent to me as a review copy by Del Rey (thank you!) and I immediately fell in love. I mean… look at this COVER. If that didn’t already convince you, take a good look at the synopsis because that’s what really sold me on reading this. I…

    The dregs of summer

Summer is barely holding on here in So Cal. We went through a few weeks of really gorgeous, cool, overcast weather and now the daytime temps are up a bit again. It’ll pass though, and I’m trying to enjoy all of it while it lasts. There’s something to be said for a warm afternoon that isn’t melting hot, so that you can take a walk for lunch at work. Plus, if I’m being honest, I’m basically a houseplant. I need sunshine to function. I talked last week about how much better my mental health has been lately, and it’s honestly…
