She’s been gifted with The Sight, but she didn’t see this coming ….

When happy, upstanding citizens of New Frisco start to murder complete strangers, then die by suicide an hour or so later, crime reporter A. J. Gregson is determined to find out why.

Teaming up once again with CIIS Special Agent Jack Eagan—a man who’s rapidly becoming more than just another need-to-know fed—A. J. and a handful of others find themselves racing against the clock to stop the bloodshed.

Who or what is compelling these people? And who will be the next to die?

The Review

I started Mind Over Murder and did not want to put it down. I love a good thriller/mystery and Kathy DiSanto did not disappoint. Twists and turns at every chapter and some stellar wit and excitement too. This futuristic thriller brings all kinds of technology and new changes to the “New Frisco” area. I loved the immersive descriptions of the local areas of San Francisco, reimagined into a post earthquake/new age setting.

The characters here are smart, intuitive, and ready to tackle every obstacle that comes their way. I hadn’t read the first book in the series, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying these characters. A.J. is a fast talking, nosey reporter who has all the right connections through years of network building. When she gets entangled with the Jack, in more ways than one, she becomes privy to even more information. Her innate need to find the truth works in her favor as she investigates the death of her good friend Pooch.

Now, I will say honestly that I did mostly figure out the ending before it arrived. There were definitely hints along the way but the ultimate unveiling still had some twists I didn’t expect. No spoilers here, but I would say you will enjoy the ride. The who-done-it of mysteries is one of my favorite things about them. Even when I think I know how it happened, the author always surprises me with something. DiSanto is great at that. The gift of Sight wasn’t as important as the blurb implies, but it certainly added to the sleuthing abilities of our dear A.J.

While this story is a bit slow to build, I think you’ll enjoy the pacing and characters. A.J. is an excellent lead and I loved reading about how she navigates her various contacts and relationships to get to the bottom of everything. While the reporter being allowed into crime scenes and interrogations is a little far fetched for me, it didn’t distract too much from the actual story. I want to go read the first book in this series now, and look forward to more from this author!
