Harriet York has no idea why she’s being haunted. She’s a good person—or, at least, she tries to be. A people pleaser to her core, she always does what’s expected of her. But as she and Nolan begin to examine her past, they discover there are threads that bind them together— and realize there might be more to moving on than expected.
With the deadline of Christmas Eve fast approaching, will they find the key to their futures in each other’s pasts? Or will they stay firmly in the present, indulging in their unexpected, spirited connection?
Filled with magic, mayhem, and cozy holiday charm
The Review
I finished out my year of reading with Good Spirits and I am so deeply glad that I did. This was one of those books that I picked up on a whim during the Libro.fm sale. The cover was adorable, and the blurb felt like the kind of story that would sweep me away. I’m happy to report, that I was exactly right. B.K. Borison has written a story here that is light, poignant and full of holiday joy.
We meet Harriet York, the sweetest character I’ve met in ages. Although she describes herself as a people pleaser, the way she’s written simply shows her as a genuinely kind human being. Harriet is the type of person who has deep empathy for others, to the point that she often puts others before herself. She’s full of hope, has a love of the colorful and cozy and absolutely oozes Christmas cheer. Harriet’s character made my heart sing, and I already knew I was going to love this book.
Enter Nolan, a gorgeous and charming Irish sailor. Unfortunately for Harriet, he’s also the ghost of Christmas past. Sent to take her through the missteps she has made, and help right any wrongs. Nolan is meant to be with Harriet for a few days, and then disappear from her mind forever once his job is done. The only problem is, Harriet is the sweetest human being ever and there’s not a speck of proof as to why he was sent. Nolan cannot for the life of him figure out why he is so drawn to Harriet, but it just keeps growing.
I love a good grumpy-sunshine romance book, and this one just got me right in the feels. Harriet’s radiant joy pulled Nolan out of his grumpy existence so well, and watching him slowly blossom just made me so very happy. This was a feet-kicking, joyful squealing kind of book. Even the more intimate scenes felt perfectly placed and were written so sweetly I got a little teary eyed. Borison sure does know how to write a good romance. I have to tell you, this year wasn’t exactly the most merry of holidays for me but this book made my heart a little lighter.
More please. More, more, more.
