Selene Blackstone spends her days camped out in library corners with her nose glued to books. In a town like Brimrock, where she’s an outcast, she prefers her book friends to her real-life enemies. They’re a lot less judgmental. The rest of town believes she descends from a family of witches—including her evil witch grandma, Luna. In this case, the truth is stranger than fiction. She is a witch, and she’s cursed for all of eternity. Good thing her to-be-read list is pretty long…

Prickly Paranormal Investigator Aiden O’Hare speaks two languages: sarcasm and more sarcasm. He travels the country—and sometimes even the world—investigating strange phenomena with his best friend, Cory. Their investigations bring them to a cozy New England town called Brimrock, home to fabled evil witch Luna Blackstone. Armed with his dry wit, his bibliophilic love for books, and far too much free time, he’s determined to find out just what happened to Luna…

When Aiden meets Selene, he decides he must get to know her. When Selene learns Aiden is in town investigating her grandma, she knows she must stop him. He’s out to expose the truth. She’s out to keep it a secret. Neither expects to fall under each other’s spell, but sometimes love is supernatural.

The Review

I absolutely adore this book. From start to finish it was clever, fun, and full of surprises. Nicks has created a perfect blend of realism and skepticism with a touch magic. The characters are well developed, the pace is just fast enough, and the ending left me wanting more. What more could you ask for in a book?

Let’s start will Selene, our quirky heroine of the story. Resolved to be the town outcast due to a family history of odd happenings, Selene is content with her quiet life of working at the library and spending time with her best friend. In her down time she loves to read and do magic, because she’s a witch. She’s resigned herself to a life without love as every relationship attempt thus far has not gone well, and of course there’s the family curse.

Enter Aiden. A paranormal skeptic dragged into this small town life for the holidays by his partner in crime and co-host Eddie. Already a grinch during this time of year, Aiden tries to research the famous Blackstone family for their next big episode. Little does he know, he’s already met the granddaughter of the infamous Luna Blackstone, and is starting to mix business with pleasure.

Selene and Aiden have great chemistry, it’s the perfect amount of awkward and sweet. The both have ulterior motives by getting close to each other, but the “magic” of attraction has cast a spell on them.

This wonderfully funny and delightful story will keep you on your toes and make you want to be able to do your own magic. The supporting characters are interesting and full of snarky love and the whole story just feels like you could be hanging out at the best coffee shop in their town watching the story unfold. I give this a full 5 stars and would recommend it to those who love a good romance, with a bit of magic.

Mila Nicks has a thing for romance. Chick lit, chick flicks, you name it, she’s there. She’s all about basking in a quality, well-told love story. It’s why she’s decided to use her passion for writing to pen love stories featuring women of color.

When she’s not engrossed in all things romance, she’s probably out shopping, sampling food off of someone else’s plate, or hanging with her feisty and dangerous pet chihuahua, Zayden.
