Book Review: Hush, Hush

For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. She’s never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how much her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her…until Patch comes along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment, but after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora’s not sure whom to trust.

Patch seems to be everywhere she is, and to know more about her than her closest friends. She can’t decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is far more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.

For Nora is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen – and when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost her life.

Cover Inspection:
What really drew me to this cover was the falling angel! First one I’d seen.

First Thoughts:
Oh Nora. Oh poor poor Nora.

My Thoughts:
Plan and simple? I simply adored this book! Intelligent and driven female protagonist? Check! Deep and brooding (and handsome) male character? Check! Story that makes me want to read until I finish despite the fact that I know the morning is quickly approaching? Check, check check!

Nora Grey embodies everything I love in a female main character. She is intelligent, motivated, and yes she is stubborn. Oh how I love a stubborn protagonist! I try not to compare books when I read, however sometimes there is no way around it. My mind will insist on feeding me the title of another book that is similar until I acknowledge that little voice and move on! This book reminded me of Twilight, with the exception that Nora would definitely kick Edward in the behind. Thus, why he was paired with Bella, and Nora was paired with Patch.

Ah, Patch. I’ll admit it. I am a sucker for the evil boyfriend type. I know there is much buzz both negative and positive surrounding this type of character, but I truly enjoy them! Patch is deliciously evil in the best way possible. He has that dark and brooding air about him, that makes Nora interested in him but still pushes her away at the same time. Watching Nora’s mental battle between attraction and disgust was really what won me over. She was constantly able to reason with herself, rather then letting herself just fall.

I think Nora should start some therapy and self-defense classes for other main characters.

Add in a roller coaster ride of a plot, and you have me hooked. Becca Fitzpatrick knows how to craft a story that will keep you reading despite the fact that your eyes are closing on their own. Yes my friends, if you fall in love with this story you will find yourself battling sleep to find out what happens to Nora and Patch! That coupled with what I mentioned above makes this a book I will definitely own and fanatically recommend.
