And…Discuss! Series or Standalone? What’s your poison?

It’s baaaccckkkk!!! And…Discuss is a way for me to share a topic I’ve been thinking about, ramble about it for a bit, and then open the floor to your opinions. An open forum for bookaholics!
This time the topic is….
Series or Standalone? What’s your poison?
For me, it’s always the question. Do I dare start a series? What happens if I can’t find/afford all the books? What if I get bored part way through? Do I stick to standalone books and avoid crazy cliffhangers that make me want to throw the book across the room?
I’ve always been a bit of a flip-flop reader in this regard. There are series that I have read, and loved, from beginning to end. Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, The Hunger Games, and a lot more.
Then there are those series that already have 8 books in them and the books just keep coming, and coming, and coming. I wonder when I’ll ever have time to catch up, and if it’s ever worth it to start! On the flip side, even if a series is new, I don’t like to read a book and then wait months for the next one. I’m always afraid I’ll forget what happened before. Do you feel me readaholics? When you read as much as we do, sometimes books start to blend together.
At the end of the day, I suppose I’m really more of a standalone girl.
Give me a good, solid, book and I’m yours forever!
So what about you, dear readers?
Are you a series lover? Or a standalone reader?
