Book Review: Shiver

For years, Grace has watched the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf—her wolf—is a chilling presence she can’t seem to live without. Meanwhile, Sam has lived two lives: In winter, the frozen woods, the protection of the pack, and the silent company of a fearless girl. In summer, a few precious months of being human … until the cold makes him shift back again.

Now, Grace meets a yellow-eyed boy whose familiarity takes her breath away. It’s her wolf. It has to be. But as winter nears, Sam must fight to stay human–or risk losing himself, and Grace, forever.

My Review:

Shiver was everything I hoped that it would be!

When I first found out that Shiver dealt with “werewolves” of sorts, I was a little worried if I would enjoy it. I have read other books dealing with said mythical beings and always come away a little confused. However, after being assured multiple times that this was a different kind of story, I gave in and dove right in. Thank you people who stuck with me while I was debating! I loved it!

Grace was a great main character. I love when the female characters in books have it together! She was a master of her domain, in full control of her ever changing feelings. That is what made this book stand out for me. I’m a sucker for strong female protagonists and boy is Grace ever one! Her character pretty much sold this book for me from chapter one.

Learning about Sam and the brotherhood that he shared with his pack was wonderful. I could truly believe his connection with Beck. After we learn what it was like for Sam before his pack came along, I truly felt connected with Sam and his need for that family love. Beck as a father figure was perfect!

Meeting Sam and Grace, then watching them fall into a deep love. This book is so emotional, and perfectly written! I truly believed that Sam and Grace would do anything to be together. Following them through their struggle just made it all the more real.

This story is the perfect mixture of action and romance. Loved it! I’ll be waiting anxiously for Linger!
